Our Story

MadInKa was born out of a deep, lifelong love for baskets, for beautifully crafted baskets, and for the spirit of Africa.

From a young age, I was fascinated by baskets. Their textures, their forms, their practicality, and the stories they seemed to hold. They were never just objects to me—they were pieces of culture, craft, and joy. As I grew older, that love never faded.

Then came the moment that changed everything: my first trip to Kenya. It wasn’t just the landscape that moved me—it was the people, the colours, the rhythm of life and love for life, and most of all, the incredible artistry of the women in rural communities. I fell in love. And I saw something I wanted to share.

Each of our baskets are handwoven by skilled Kenyan women, using traditional techniques passed down through generations. Made from locally grown sisal, every piece is a testament to sustainability, craftsmanship, and cultural heritage. But more than that, they’re a source of empowerment—offering women in rural Kenya consistent income, dignity, and a stronger voice in their communities.

MadInKa exists to bring that beauty into people’s lives.

When you carry a MadInKa basket or have one in your home, you are not just carrying something beautiful. You are carrying a story—of a childhood love for baskets, of a connection to Kenya, and of women’s hands shaping something meaningful, one weave at a time.

We hope you find yourself in every basket – as every basket is individual just like you!
